Heartbeat…
In about an hour Dust-man and I get to hear the beat of the tiniest little heart.
Toes and eyelids and all of this seems like magic to me…
Where have we been? Well, I spent the last 8 days in Portland with dear family and friends, touring art galleries and some pretty fine food establishments (Jimmy Mak’s has the most amazing Blackened Chicken Alfredo- you will want to lick your plate.)
I travelled south with dear friends V and L for the fews days in that lovely city. And as we wandered the streets of Portland and marveled at the architecture and so-nice! people, I was feeling especially sensitive that there is this other little being hanging out with us, enjoying the jazz music, the fresh spring air, the blossoms of the trees… What a special time for me, to carry around the soul of another human being! It really is magic, that this little baby is buried deep within me, but still is separate from me. I know I have deadline in front of me, when this life will join the outside world, so I am trying to get the most out of this wild ride of pregnancy.
Oh I love Portland! Here’s a recap of the highlights:
* We laughed at the very funny Jonathan Goldstein as he read from his new book at Powell’s book store. (and yes, those are his REAL parents that he occasionally phones up on WireTap! I had to ask.)
* We saw the 83 year old Bill Henderson belt out some mighty jazzy tunes at Jimmy Mak’s. And don’t forget the Blackened Chicken Alfredo and the bottomless glasses of fresh made ginger ale!
* We ate at the Savoy Tavern in the Clinton district- my my, they make the best Mac and Cheese I have ever eaten. Ever. And they are also right around the corner from the Clinton Street Theatre that shows the Rocky Horror Picture Show EVERY SATURDAY!!! Someday I’ll do that… someday, dear Janet…
* Noel fed me fresh Dungeness crab, and clams. oh my.
* As soon as I heard he was there, I had to go see him- and YES! I saw Sam! And he is the cutest 1000lbs I have ever laid eyes on. Look at that baby pachyderm bum!
So, as usual, I love Portland. So does Baby Harrison, of course!
