12 weeks + 5 days…

By doriluthy, April 24, 2009 11:10 pm

Well the midwife appointment was pretty uneventful…

Oh who am I kidding?! We heard the little Peanut’s heartbeat!! After searching for 3-4 minutes across the rolling terrain that is my belly, there it was! About 5 seconds of thu-thump thu-thump thu-thump… For a 2 inch long Peanut, it was a fast tiny heartbeat representing a charming chromosomal mix of me and Dust-man. A veritable mixing bowl containing a bit of each of us and all of our families, linking back from the beginning of time. This talent, that skill. Whose eyes, whose nose? How many people will we recognize in the eyes of this child, those near and dear to us? And really, how many more have contributed something to the unique creation of this human child, characters and influences we will never know or recognize, some family trait linking back 500 years…

Doesn’t it blow your mind? I am making a new human being inside of me, right now, at this very second. A spirit completely unknown to the world. Well, only about 27 weeks to go until we get to meet the next generation of our tribe.

At the Edge of the Ocean

I have heard this music before,

saith the body.

Goodnight.

Heartbeat…

By doriluthy, April 22, 2009 3:49 pm

In about an hour Dust-man and I get to hear the beat of the tiniest little heart.

Toes and eyelids and all of this seems like magic to me…

Where have we been? Well, I spent the last 8 days in Portland with dear family and friends, touring art galleries and some pretty fine food establishments (Jimmy Mak’s has the most amazing Blackened Chicken Alfredo- you will want to lick your plate.)

I travelled south with dear friends V and L for the fews days in that lovely city. And as we wandered the streets of Portland and marveled at the architecture and so-nice! people, I was feeling especially sensitive that there is this other little being hanging out with us, enjoying the jazz music, the fresh spring air, the blossoms of the trees…  What a special time for me, to carry around the soul of another human being! It really is magic, that this little baby is buried deep within me, but still is separate from me. I know I have deadline in front of me, when this life will join the outside world, so I am trying to get the most out of this wild ride of pregnancy.

Oh I love Portland! Here’s a recap of the highlights:

* We laughed at the very funny Jonathan Goldstein as he read from his new book at Powell’s book store. (and yes, those are his REAL parents that he occasionally phones up on WireTap! I had to ask.)

* We saw the 83 year old Bill Henderson belt out some mighty jazzy tunes at Jimmy Mak’s. And don’t forget the Blackened Chicken Alfredo and the bottomless glasses of fresh made ginger ale!

* We ate at the Savoy Tavern in the Clinton district- my my, they make the best Mac and Cheese I have ever eaten. Ever. And they are also right around the corner from the Clinton Street Theatre that shows the Rocky Horror Picture Show EVERY SATURDAY!!!  Someday I’ll do that… someday, dear Janet…

* Noel fed me fresh Dungeness crab, and clams. oh my.

* As soon as I heard he was there, I had to go see him- and YES! I saw Sam! And he is the cutest 1000lbs I have ever laid eyes on. Look at that baby pachyderm bum!

So, as usual, I love Portland. So does Baby Harrison, of course!

Could you imagine my pee producing anything more amazing than this? …

And in a few short months, all of life will change for the Harrison's...

Me either. Well, holy rusted metal, Batman…

Surprise! Bring on the Raging Hormones!! Bring on the enormous belly! Bring on the swollen ankles and giant boobs? I can handle it all… Right?  You’ll be hearing all about it, no doubt.

And high five, Dust-man. Your swimmer crossed the English Channel.

Studio relish…

By doriluthy, April 2, 2009 9:47 pm

Well, not the kind of relish that you put on hotdogs, all green and sweet, but the rather this is the relish of the feeling of getting some real creative time while sitting in my little sunlit space of heaven. It had been a long few weeks without Dustin, and so I really focused on putting my head down and worked on business development for the jewelry line. Things were going good, but when I paused working and had a moment the other day to play with some clay with a friend, I realized that I had not actually worked on something other than jewelry in OVER 8 MONTHS! Egads! So I promptly cleared my schedule, and have begun a new sculpture.

Joy is- spending 2 uninteruppted hours carving clay toes- oh just right.

And Dustin is back! He’s upstairs right now, having a relaxing evening in front of the fireplace computer. It’s good to have him home, and while he was away I did manage to PAINT! the living/dining rooms. Phew it looks so good in here, much bigger, much brighter. The walls are now cloud white, and smokey blue gray (no longer rotting fleshy pink!)… Yes, these walls are truly LOVELY! I’ll have to get photos this weekend, when I get the curtains and artwork hung back up. Wait for the before and after photos! yo!

Well, that’s all for now. My energy is low these days, but I do have more to talk about- it will have to wait…

Just be paitent! I promise I’ll be back soon.
